A long time

It has been awhile since I've wrote...so an update:

Race Results:

I am having a blast training now that the weather is getting warmer - training with the MU track team and biking to swimming at 5am in the light is always a treat! I am currently in Monterrey, Mexico for a race with a great group of athletes from the US. If you would like to follow me more, please follow me on twitter: @gwenjorgensen

It is truly an honor just to be nominated. There are a tremendous number of talented triathletes in the nation and I am honored to be among them. I would not have had the success I did this past season without my fellow competitors. My coaches, teammates, and friends in triathlon pushed me to use my God-given talent in order to compete to the best of my ability; it is a credit to them that I have received this honor. I also could not do any of this without my sponsors. David Hobbs Honda has given me a car so I can get to workouts and races. Starting this year, I will be on Team Timex and am extremely excited for the opportunity to represent them!

What did I learn in my rookie year?

What didn't I learn this year? I had no idea how to mount a bike at my first triathlon, and at my second triathlon I left a bag of rubber bands in my shoes at T2. Every race, and every practice I was learning something new. I was fortunate to be surrounded by incredible mentors at USAT, coaches (Cindi Bannink, Dave Anderson, Jessica Conners, and more), and fellow competitors. Athletes were willing to help me at races, and were always pointing out areas where I could improve - whether it be where to sit in a pack, how to ride over cobblestone, or which spot to pick when lining up for the swim, they were always there to help me. Every race was a learning experience and I plan to continue to learn along this journey. As I continue to progress, I look forward to giving tips to other up-and-coming athletes.

What's to come in 2011?

Cindi Bannink and I have a schedule for 2011 that I am extremely excited about. My first Triathlon will be in Clermont, Florida in March. Most of my races this year will have a higher level of competition which will push me to my best and will continue to force me to learn. I hope to do my best in every race, and to push my competitors and myself to compete at our highest level. With this type of competition, I believe the USA will be able to compete with the top triathletes in the world. I also look forward to giving back to the community and helping local athletes.
